Solar and batteries in Cooma, Jindabyne and the Snowy Monaro

Cooma is 136 km from our Mitchell base by road, and Jindabyne, Berridale, Nimmitabel and Adaminaby sit at the edge of our area. This is high country: the mounting has to carry snow, batteries need a sheltered spot above freezing, and backup power matters more here than almost anywhere else we work.
In short
- Mounting is chosen to carry Monaro snow loads, and batteries are installed somewhere sheltered and above freezing.
- Backup and off-grid systems are common requests here, and we size them for long, cold winters.
- Winter access can decide the timing of an install, especially around Jindabyne and Adaminaby, so we plan the schedule with you early.

What we install in the Monaro
- Rooftop solar with Jinko and AIKO panels and GoodWe, Sungrow or Sigenergy inverters
- Home batteries from Sigenergy, Tesla Powerwall 3 and GoodWe, added to new or existing solar
- EV chargers, single-phase or three-phase, set up to charge from your solar
- Heat pump hot water from iStore and Reclaim, replacing old electric or gas units
- Off-grid and backup systems for properties at the end of long lines or beyond the grid
- Commercial solar for sheds, shops, offices and farms
Built for snow and frost
Panels and frames on the Monaro need to carry the weight of snow and stand up to strong winds, so we choose mounting rated for the conditions rather than the lightest option. Batteries are installed in a sheltered, above-freezing spot, because a battery that sits in the cold delivers less of its capacity.
Winter access can decide when a job is done. Around Jindabyne, Adaminaby and Nimmitabel especially, we plan the schedule with you early so the installation doesn’t end up waiting on the weather.
Backup and off-grid power
Outages on long rural lines are part of life out here, and many properties are a long way from the nearest pole. A battery set up for backup keeps the essentials running when the grid goes down. Where connecting to the grid would cost more than going without, we design off-grid systems with enough battery and, if needed, a generator to get through a run of grey winter days.
Jindabyne and the lake
Jindabyne is about 212 km from our base by road, roughly three hours, so we plan visits there carefully and group site visits and installs where we can. Plenty of homes around Lake Jindabyne, East Jindabyne, Kalkite and Crackenback are holiday houses or rentals that sit empty for weeks at a time. For those, a battery with backup and an app you can check from Canberra or Sydney is often worth more than the biggest array that fits the roof.
Properties inside Kosciuszko National Park come under their own planning rules, so call us before sending photos if your place is in the park.
Rebates and pricing
The prices on this website are for the ACT and within 35 km of Canberra. Out here the same system usually costs about 15–30% more, for travel, time away and the warranty responsibility that comes with distance. We confirm the final price in writing before you commit to anything. Jindabyne, Berridale, Nimmitabel and Adaminaby are at the edge of our area, so we confirm those by phone before booking a site visit.
Every NSW home gets the same federal support as Canberra: small-scale technology certificates (STCs) come off the price of solar panels, and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program takes a tiered amount off an approved battery. Both are applied on your quote, so there is nothing to claim afterwards.
NSW’s upfront battery installation incentive has been closed to households since July 2025. What NSW does offer is a one-off incentive when you sign a battery up to a virtual power plant (VPP), and discounts on eligible heat pump hot water through the NSW Energy Savings Scheme. The ACT’s Sustainable Household Scheme loans are for ACT homes only. Our incentives page has the current figures, and your quote shows each discount as its own line.
How a job out here works
- Send us your address, a few photos of your roof and a recent power bill, or use the quote form.
- We design the system from satellite imagery and your photos, and tell you up front how the site visit will be handled. For distant jobs we pair it with other work nearby.
- You get a written, itemised price with every rebate applied before you commit.
- Our own team installs, commissions and registers the system with the network, and stays your point of contact afterwards.

Common questions
Can solar panels handle Monaro snow?
Yes, with the right mounting. We choose frames rated for the snow and wind loads up here, and set the tilt so snow slides off once the sun gets on it.
Will a battery work in a Cooma winter?
It will, if it is installed somewhere sheltered and above freezing. Cold batteries deliver less of their capacity, so placement matters as much as the brand.
Is off-grid cheaper than connecting to the grid?
Sometimes. If the nearest pole is a long way away, an off-grid system can cost less than a new connection. We compare the two for your site.
Do you install in Jindabyne?
Yes. Jindabyne and the 2627 postcode are at the edge of our area, about three hours by road from our Mitchell base. We confirm the job by phone first, then group site visits and installs to keep the travel cost down.
Can I get the NSW battery rebate here?
The NSW upfront battery installation incentive has been closed to households since July 2025, so the main discount on a new battery is the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, which we apply on your quote. If you sign the battery up to a virtual power plant you can also earn a one-off NSW incentive through the VPP provider.
Your next step
Send us your address, a few photos and a recent bill (or your generator use, if you are off-grid). We will design for the coldest months and send an itemised price.
