Small-Scale Renewable Energy Systems

Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) | Solar4Life

I. Introduction
At Solar4Life, our mission is to help you embrace clean, renewable energy. Installing an eligible small-scale system—such as a solar PV system, solar water heater, or air source heat pump—may qualify you for financial incentives under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). Below is an overview of the requirements and benefits, so you can maximize your savings while staying compliant with all regulations.

II. Types of Small-Scale Renewable Energy Systems

  1. Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems

    • System Capacity: Up to 100 kW
    • Key Benefits:
      • Generate clean electricity and reduce energy bills
      • Lower your environmental impact
    • Our Promise: Solar4Life provides high-quality solar PV systems that meet SRES eligibility requirements, using only approved panels and inverters.
  2. Solar Water Heaters

    • System Capacity: Up to 700 L (larger systems may need extra documentation)
    • Key Benefits:
      • Significantly reduce hot water energy costs
      • Lower greenhouse gas emissions
    • Our Promise: We offer reliable, long-lasting solar water heaters suited to various household needs.
  3. Air Source Heat Pumps

    • System Capacity: Up to 425 L
    • Key Benefits:
      • Efficient heating in diverse climates
      • Reduced energy bills and carbon footprint
    • Our Promise: Our air source heat pumps balance performance and sustainability, helping you save on heating costs.

III. Installation Requirements

  • System Eligibility: Your chosen system must meet the criteria set out in the SRES.
  • Accredited Installation: A Solar Accreditation Australia (SAA) accredited designer and installer must perform the work, using components listed on the Clean Energy Council (CEC) approved components list.
  • Compliance: The installation must meet relevant local, state, territory, and federal regulations, including electrical safety standards.

IV. Eligibility for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)

A. Newly Installed Systems

To claim STCs for a new system, you must:

  • Create STCs within 12 months of the installation date
  • Have the system designed and installed by an SAA-accredited professional
  • Use Australian/New Zealand standards-compliant products (panels and inverters must be CEC-approved)

B. Expanding, Upgrading, or Replacing Existing Systems

  • Electrical Wiring Upgrades: Check if your wiring needs an update to meet current safety standards
  • Efficiency Gains: Consider how newer, more efficient components could reduce your power usage
  • Additional Costs: Be aware of any hidden expenses required to comply with updated regulations
  • Impact on Feed-in Tariffs: Understand how system expansion may affect your current feed-in tariff arrangement

Note: If you replace panels that have previously earned STCs, those specific panels are not eligible for new STCs.
